Height: 2–15 m, bark not fissured, twigs tomentose
Leaves: Small to medium, leathery, evergreen for 2–3 years, petiolate, oval, oblong or lanceolate, margin toothed-spiny or entire on older branches, dark green above, gray/white tomentose beneath, 12–20 secondary veins
Flowers: Male, in elongated, pubescent catkins
Fruits: Subsessile on current-year twigs, hemispherical cupule gray-tomentose with appressed scales, acorn variable with long glabrous tip at the base
